Basant Kumar Birla also well known as BK Birla (born on 12 January 1921 in Kolkata, India) was an industrialist/businessman of the Birla family. He was chairman of the BK Birla Institute of Engineering & Technology (BKBIET), Krishnarpan Charity Trust, and various educational institutes and trusts.

Basant Kumar Birla, popularly well known as BK Birla, passed away at the age of 98, on Wednesday, in Mumbai. Birla is looked after by his two daughters Jayshree Mohta and Majushree Khaitan. His son Aditya Vikram Birla passed away in 1995.

Basant Kumar Birla/BK Birla (born on 12 January 1921) is the youngest son of philanthropist Ghanshyam Das Birla. He was actively associated with a large number of companies, by fifteen years of age and eventually became the chairperson of Kesoram Industries. In this role, he kept his concentration on the industries of cotton, polyester, nylon yarns, and viscose, refractory, paper, transparent paper, shipping, tyrecord, spun pipe, cement, tea, coffee, cardamom, plywood, chemicals, MDF Board etc.

Later, He established the Indo-Ethiopian Textiles Share Company, which was the first major joint venture by an Indian industrialist. In response, he was awared the highest Ethiopian award, the medal of the Order of Menelik II given by the Emperor of Ethiopia, Haile Selassie I.

He married Sarla in April 1941, the daughter of writer and activist Brijlal Biyani, after having been introduced to themselves each other by Jamnalal Bajaj and Mahatma Gandhi. They blessed with a son and two daughters named Aditya Vikram Birla, Jayashree Mohta and Manjushree Khaitan.

He worked as the chairman of the Krishnarpan Charity Trust (KCT), which also runs an engineering college BK Birla Institute of Engineering & Technology (BKBIET), in Pilani, Rajasthan, and also the Swargashram Trust, which looks after the administration of a Sanskrit school in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. He established Birla Public School (BPS) in Qatar and the Birla College of Arts, Science & Commerce in Kalyan, near Mumbai. He is the author of many books including an autobiography entitled Svantah Sukhaya.
