MS Dhoni aka Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MSD) is a well known Indian Cricketer, and he is popularly known as former Indian Cricket Team captain.

India won the ICC T20 World Cup in the year 2007, ICC World Cup in the year 2011, and Champions Trophy in the year 2013 under his captaincy.

MS Dhoni was born on 7 July 1981 (Age: 37 years, as in 2018) in a middle-class Rajput family in Ranchi, Jharkhand (Then in Bihar), India. He studied in DAV Jawahar Vidya Mandir, Shyamali, Ranchi. To pursue higher education, he joined the St. Xavier College, Ranchi to get a bachelor degree, but because of some issues, he could not complete his graduation. MS Dhoni was born and grown in a middle-class Rajput family from the city Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. His father name is Pan Singh, an employee at MECON. His mother name is Devki Devi, who is a homemaker. He is the youngest among three siblings in his family. His elder sister named ‘Jayanti Gupta’ and also has an elder brother named ‘Narendra Singh Dhoni’ is a politician. His family was given support to him to play cricket, especially his father and sister.

Dhoni married his lover Sakshi Singh Rawat (Sakshi Dhoni) after dating her for a long time, on 4 July 2010. They blessed with a daughter named ‘Ziva.’

Career

His journey to get selected to the Indian cricket team was hard. Initially, he was a goalkeeper in a local Football team. A cricket coach, KR Banerjee, observed him while goalkeeping and asked him to try his hand at wicketkeeping.

He played many local tournament matches and became a local star. Though he played well for Bihar since 1998, he was not getting a chance for playing in the Indian team.

He went to West Bengal and got the Ticket Collector post at Kharagpur railway station and continued his job up to 3 years (2001-2003).

On 23 December 2004, he made his ICC One-Day International (ODI) debut against Bangladesh at Chittagong. He got selected for India A tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya, in the same year; there he performed exceptionally well.

He made his ICC Test and T20 debut in the year 2005 and 2006 respectively. In the year 2007, he got captaincy of the Indian team on the recommendation of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, and since then, he drove the Indian team to the new heights like never before.

Under his captaincy, India won the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup (2007), International Cricket World Cup (2011), Champions Trophy (2013), and India became and remained as the No.1 Test team for over 18 months.

  • In 2007, A few residents of his locality filed a plea against the Ranchi Regional Development Authority (RRDA). In the situation of a severe water crisis in the state, 15000 litres of water was being wasted for the maintenance purpose of the swimming pool in Dhoni’s house. 
  • A tax evasion controversy over his car Hummer H2 made the buzz, as the vehicle needed a registration charge of ₹4 lakhs, but, mistakenly, it was registered as Mahindra Scorpio, the registration fee of that vehicle which was ₹53,000. 
  • During the year 2013, on the IPL spot-fixing issue, Dhoni came under the suspicion of the Supreme Court. He was in contact with Gurunath Meiyappan, who was named in the betting charge sheet. On questioning about the connection with Meiyappan, MSD called Gurunath Meiyappan, a “Mere Cricket Enthusiast.” However, Meiyappan was a full-fledged team owner. 
  • In April 2016, he resigned his brand ambassador post of “Amrapali Real Estate Group” after the firm was trolled on social media sites by residents of an Amrapali housing project who were angry over the unfinished work. Dhoni sued the group for over Rs 150 crore dues.
